If it was strictly a game of luck this would not be the case and the winner would be determined by the draw of the cards alone. The fact that you can still win by using a better betting strategy than your opponent means that poker is a game that requires skill as much as it does luck.

Black Friday for those who don’t know occurred on April 15 when the government indicted the operators of the three largest poker sites in the world. The reason was that online gambling is illegal in the US and has been for years. Nevertheless millions of Americans gamble online all of the time and this is what the government is trying to stop. The real question is whether or not they are going to be successful and whether or not it is the end of online poker for players in the USA?

In general the belief is that black Friday is not going to have any real impact on online poker because the practice is so wide spread. While the operators of three online casinos were indicted there are hundreds of others that were not. In addition the government of the United States is eventually going to come to the realization that they can’t control the internet, although they will surely keep trying. Websites can be started up and moved as necessary to avoid enforcement of the laws. In all likelihood this will force the government to come up with a more practical approach to dealing with online gambling.

The other reason that it is unlikely that online poker is not likely to end in the US is that there are just so many players. The result is that running a site that caters to American players is hugely profitable and this will always give people and incentive to run these sites even if it does come with a small risk of indictment. The other thing is that the millions of online poker players are also voters and if enough them demand the right to play the government will eventually have to allow it.

So has anything really changed since black Friday when it comes to online poker. The answer is not really, it is illegal to play but that was true before black Friday and it did nothing to stop millions of people from playing. The reality is that the US government just won’t be able to enforce the law on any large scale so they are hoping that a few high profile indictments will discourage others from running online poker sites. Chip Reese got his start playing poker at a very young age when he started playing against other kids on his street in Dayton Ohio. As a teenager he started playing in real games and actually proved to be quite successful at it. After graduating from high school Reese went to Dartmouth College to study economics and while he was there he continued to play poker both at the frat house and in casinos. The plan after he graduated from college was to attend law school at Stanford. That plan would end up changing dramatically.

After graduating from College Chip Reese was driving across the country to start law school at Stanford when he stopped in Las Vegas to visit a friend. He promptly lost all of his money playing black jack and had to take a job with his friend’s father to earn some cash. At the same time he started playing some poker and eventually would come with five hundred dollars so that he could enter a tournament. Reese ended up winning the tournament and pocketing fifty thousand dollars. At that point law school went out the window and Chip Reese stayed in Vegas to play poker. He would eventually play some of the best players in the world in one game and end up winning over $300 000, at this point he knew that his future was playing poker.

For a time Chip Reese would play in some of the biggest tournaments in poker however he would eventually take time away to raise a family. During this time he earned his income with sports betting becoming known as one of the best baseball handicappers in the world. He proved to be enormously successful at sports betting and would eventually win millions of dollars at it. However the world of poker would eventually pull him back.

In the early years of the twenty first century poker became a very popular event on television and it was actually Reese’s children that would get him back into the game, they wanted to see him play on television. For several years Chip Reese would finish well in some of the biggest tournaments in poker. However in 2007 Chip Reese would die of a heart attack at the age of just fifty six. During his life Chip Reese was a legendary poker player and widely regarded as the best seven card stud player in the world. His passing was a major loss to the world of poker.

With the decision to start holding the tournament every year it was obvious that there were going to have to be changes to the rules in order to make the game more spectator friendly. The biggest change was that the winner would now have to actually win the tournament by collecting all of the chips at the final table. Despite the change in format Johnny Moss came back and won again. The new format proved to be quite popular with both spectators and players.

The next big milestone in the history of the World Series of Poker occurred in 1973 when CBS broadcast the tournament. This was the first time that poker had been shown on television. The tournament also benefit from the addition of Stu Ungar as a player. Ungar was much more colorful than most of the other players in the tournament and this really helped the tournament to increase its following on television. With his fame Brunson wrote a book on how to play poker which quickly became a best seller and to this day remains the bible for most serious poker players.

After more than fifty years in the game Doyle Brunson is still going strong. He enters and wins tournaments even though in most cases he is by far the oldest player. With the recent increase in popularity of poker Doyle Brunson has been introduced to a whole new generation of fans and has found a new level of popularity. There is no getting around the fact that Doyle Brunson is one of the true legends of poker. Something that was confirmed in 2004 when he was one of the first three people to be inducted into the Poker Walk of Fame. With no slowing down in site there will likely be a number of other achievements in the career of Doyle Brunson before he is done.
