Poker is rather unique compared to most of the other games that are played in casinos in that it is a game of skill as much as luck. That means that there are some traits that the good players have that makes them so good at the game. If you have a desire to play professionally you should have these personality traits as they are usually the difference between being a winner and being a loser.

Probably the most important trait that you need to have if you are going to be a poker player is that you need to be able to control your emotions. This is because if you can’t it is going to be pretty easy for your opponents to read you and when this happens you are not going to have much chance of winning. A good poker face is critical and this requires that you be able to keep your emotions under control so that it isn’t obvious to everybody how good your hand is.

Another big trait that you have to have if you are going to be a successful professional player is the ability to make decisions with limited information. This is something that a lot of people really struggle with. You need to be able to decide what you are going to do based on what you think that your opponents are going to do even though you don’t know what their cards are. Most people find it very difficult to make decisions when they don’t have all of the information which in poker is going to happen on every hand.

What makes poker a game of skill, and not just a game of luck?

Poker has quickly become one of the most popular games at the casino and for one big reason. Unlike virtually every other game poker is a game where skill is a factor in winning or losing. That means that the odds are not necessarily against you as the better player will have the best chance of winning. That being said it does take a long time to develop the required skills to be a consistent winner at poker.

AJThe biggest reason that poker is a game of skill and not just luck is that you can win even if you don’t have the best hand. If it was strictly a game of luck this would not be the case and the winner would be determined by the draw of the cards alone. The fact that you can still win by using a better betting strategy than your opponent means that poker is a game that requires skill as much as it does luck.

The biggest skill that you need in order to be a good poker player is the risk management. You need to know when to take a risk and stay in and when the rewards don’t justify the risk and you should fold. This is the skill that you have to learn if you are going to be successful and a lot of people take a long time to learn how to do this. The real challenge is that you have to be able to do this quickly and without full information. That means that you are going to have to be able to take an educated guess about what your opponents are going to do.

Black Friday: Is it the end of online poker in the USA?

If you play online poker in the United States you have probably heard that black Friday was going to be the end of your ability to play. While there were certainly reasons to worry the questions have to be has anything really changed and will you will still be able to play online poker if you live in the USA. The answer is that while online poker is illegal it is really hasn’t affected your ability to play if you want to.

Black Friday for those who don’t know occurred on April 15 when the government indicted the operators of the three largest poker sites in the world. The reason was that online gambling is illegal in the US and has been for years. FBI Black FridayNevertheless millions of Americans gamble online all of the time and this is what the government is trying to stop. The real question is whether or not they are going to be successful and whether or not it is the end of online poker for players in the USA?

In general the belief is that black Friday is not going to have any real impact on online poker because the practice is so wide spread. While the operators of three online casinos were indicted there are hundreds of others that were not. In addition the government of the United States is eventually going to come to the realization that they can’t control the internet, although they will surely keep trying. Websites can be started up and moved as necessary to avoid enforcement of the laws. In all likelihood this will force the government to come up with a more practical approach to dealing with online gambling.

The other reason that it is unlikely that online poker is not likely to end in the US is that there are just so many players. The result is that running a site that caters to American players is hugely profitable and this will always give people and incentive to run these sites even if it does come with a small risk of indictment. The other thing is that the millions of online poker players are also voters and if enough them demand the right to play the government will eventually have to allow it.

Who was Chip Reese?

Chip Reese was one of the true legends in the world of poker. Although he was best known for his success in cash games he did have a number of good results in tournaments as well. Chip Reese passed away in 2007 and that brought to the end the career of one of the best poker players of all time.

Chip ReeseChip Reese got his start playing poker at a very young age when he started playing against other kids on his street in Dayton Ohio. As a teenager he started playing in real games and actually proved to be quite successful at it. After graduating from high school Reese went to Dartmouth College to study economics and while he was there he continued to play poker both at the frat house and in casinos. The plan after he graduated from college was to attend law school at Stanford. That plan would end up changing dramatically.

After graduating from College Chip Reese was driving across the country to start law school at Stanford when he stopped in Las Vegas to visit a friend. He promptly lost all of his money playing black jack and had to take a job with his friend’s father to earn some cash. At the same time he started playing some poker and eventually would come with five hundred dollars so that he could enter a tournament. Reese ended up winning the tournament and pocketing fifty thousand dollars. At that point law school went out the window and Chip Reese stayed in Vegas to play poker. He would eventually play some of the best players in the world in one game and end up winning over $300 000, at this point he knew that his future was playing poker.

For a time Chip Reese would play in some of the biggest tournaments in poker however he would eventually take time away to raise a family. During this time he earned his income with sports betting becoming known as one of the best baseball handicappers in the world. He proved to be enormously successful at sports betting and would eventually win millions of dollars at it. However the world of poker would eventually pull him back.

The History of the World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker got its start in 1970 when casino owner Benny Binion invited some of the world’s best poker players to play in a tournament in his casino in an attempt Stuey Ungarto garner some publicity and increase his business. At the time poker was not a particularly popular game in casinos and Binion’s didn’t even have a poker room. The tournament attracted a number of interested spectators which was enough to encourage Binion to start holding the tournament every year. The first winner of the World Series of Poker was Johnny Moss who won as the result of vote for the best player rather than actually winning a tournament.

With the decision to start holding the tournament every year it was obvious that there were going to have to be changes to the rules in order to make the game more spectator friendly. The biggest change was that the winner would now have to actually win the tournament by collecting all of the chips at the final table. Despite the change in format Johnny Moss came back and won again. The new format proved to be quite popular with both spectators and players.

Who is Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson?

Doyle Brunson is one of the true legends in the world of poker. After getting his start in cash games Brunson became one of the first truly great tournament players during the seventies. Amazingly he remains one of the best tournament players right to this day. There are few poker players who have achieved as much as Doyle Brunson and this is why he is one of the most respected players in the business.

texas dollyDoyle Brunson was born and raised in a small town in Texas where he was quite an athlete as a child. He was looking at the possibility of a career as a basket ball player when a knee injury brought an end to that. It was while he was at college that Brunson got serious about poker. He had been playing the game for years but mostly for fun, it was during his college years that he realized that he could make a living playing the game. After graduating and going on to earn a master’s degree Brunson tried holding a regular job for a while but soon realized that he could make far more playing poker.

In the early days of his poker career Doyle Brunson played in mainly cash games around Texas. This was a dangerous way to make a living since poker was illegal it tended to attract a lot of shady characters. Disputes could and often did turn violent. Despite this Brunson thrived and made a great deal of money however he also realized that if he was going to make real money playing poker he was going to have to move to Las Vegas.
